Representation that matters
As both an educator and a parent, I understand the emotional, psychological, and academic challenges our children are experiencing. These are challenging times that require educational leaders with the knowledge and experience to make well-informed decisions that prioritize the well-being of ALL students.
This election vote for Representation that Matters!
My professional journey in public education began with a passion for teaching and a dedication to serving students of all backgrounds. I have an extensive academic and professional background that has equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed for educational leadership and oversight.
I hold a BA in Communication Studies, a Single-Subject English Education credential, a Master's in Education with a focus in Digital Learning and Literacy, and a Master of Arts in Communication with a focus in Organizational Leadership.
Throughout my 15+ years working in the K12 system, I was an English teacher, Journalism Adviser, English Language Development (ELD) Coordinator, and Student Activities Advisor, working in Gilroy, San Jose, and Morgan Hill schools.
I have been recognized by Gilroy Unified School District as their Teacher of the Year in 2009, San Jose Unified School District’s Teacher of the Year in 2015, and Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce's 2021 as the Educator of the Year, a testament to my dedication to student success and innovation in the classroom.
I am committed to championing policies and initiatives that prioritize equity, inclusivity, and academic excellence for all students. I believe in fostering a supportive and empowering environment for educators, advocating for resources that meet the diverse needs of our students, and promoting transparency and accountability in the decision-making processes.
On the Issues
It's common to think some kids just learn to read easily, even without learning phonics. But our brains process written words one sound and letter at a time. Reading isn't something we're born knowing how to do—it's a skill that our brains have to learn. It's crucial to bring back phonics education to address the emerging literacy crisis.
The current financial challenges are a result of the expiration of temporary COVID funds. These funds were essential for pandemic response, and their absence now impacts budgets nationwide. We must focus on sustainable funding solutions that ensure all students receive the quality education they deserve.
Gen Z and Gen Alpha face unprecedented levels of stress and anxiety. We need to continue to prioritize mental health education and support. By providing accessible, comprehensive mental health services, we can ensure that every student has the resources they need to thrive both academically and personally.
Our students need to enter the real world equipped with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage their finances By integrating comprehensive financial literacy curriculum into our schools, we can empower students to make informed financial decisions, building financial stability.
There are over 7 million job opportunities nationally many of which do not require a four-year degree, indicating that the skills gap is more severe than it has ever been. The trades are becoming less and less valued in our culture. We need to change the way we think about what constitutes a "good job" and acknowledge the critical role skilled trades play in our economy.
Dual enrollment with Gavilan College allows Live Oak, Sobrato, and Central students to earn college credits early, saving time and money. It exposes them to college-level work in both academics and career fields while preparing them for a smoother transition into college or job training programs.
“I believe in the transformative power of public education and the critical role that public schools play as the epicenter of our community.”
